Dilemmas

Thursday, 8 October 2015

001. Hello blogging world, it's me again, remember me... Lena? A lot has changed since we lasted talked. I'm no longer in Alice Springs, and have found myself in the city of Brisbane again! Alas only for two more weeks though  as I'm heading off backpacking south east Asia for three months with Ben!

002. I know crazy stuff. I actually have loads of film I need to get developed from Splendour, desert adventures and a girls Byron weekend I just had. However, I rocked up the the camera shop on Tuesday to find that it's closed for renovations until Saturday. The camera gods were definitely not in my favour that day, so just enjoy the aesthetics of my latest Instagrammed antics until I get the cool stuff sorted.

Woodstock 1969

Wednesday, 26 August 2015

On Aug. 15, 1969, more than 400,000 young people made their way to a dairy farm in the town of Bethel, New York, for the Woodstock Music and Art Fair.
Organizers of Woodstock told authorities that they were expecting only 50,000 people to show up — they were hugely mistaken.
After more people arrived than expected, organizers agreed to offer admission free of charge.
Despite the gigantic gathering of people, Woodstock is remembered for being a remarkably peaceful event.
Everyone shared in an atmosphere of love and harmony; there was nothing but good vibes all around.

The amazing things that can happen when people join together in the spirit of peace, love, and music!

001. I've always been a little bit fascinated with Woodstock but I guess I never really looked into it too much or knew many details about it. I read this article the other day and really loved how it showed just how insane and beautiful the event was. Aren't festivals amazing!?

LIVING IN THE DESERT?

Wednesday, 19 August 2015

001. MAJOR apologies for the month long absence! Since I last spoke to you I've moved into the centre of Australia into a desert town called Alice Springs, landed a job at a fancy hotel and have started spending my life savings on bananas ($4 a kilo out here, very non-vegan friendly!). But all in all, I am having a blast and am enjoying living in a different part of the world. It really is very beautiful out here. I feel so lucky to live in such a unique and diverse country.

002. As I am working five days a week, don't have a flash camera and am living out of a suitcase... I can't promise too many fashion or outfit related posts. I do plan on doing my best to blog a little now and then though. If I do happen to go M.I.A again, maybe chuck me a follow on instagram, just so you can see I'm still alive and kicking.

Something To Think About

Friday, 17 July 2015

001. The other day I was going along my daily internet procrastination and came across a few quotes and questions that really make you question life, the 21st century world and humanity. They were too thought provoking for me not to share!

002. "Just look at us. Everything is backwards, everything is upside down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, psychiatrists destroy minds, scientists destroy truth, major media destroys information, religion destroys spirituality and governments destroy freedom"

003. 10 FACTS ABOUT SOCIETY THAT WE ODDLY ACCEPT AS NORMAL:
- We prioritize money and the economy over basics like air, water, food quality, our environment, and our communities.
- We utilize an economic trading system that facilitates the death of millions of people each year.
- We divide the world’s land into sections and then fight over who owns these sections.
- We call some people “soldiers” which makes it OK for them to kill other people.
- We torture and kill millions of animals every day needlessly for food, clothing, and experiments.
- We send children to school for their entire childhood to memorize facts and skills that they will rarely use.
- We impose financial pressures on parents, forcing them to miss out on vital stages of their child’s development.
- We have thousands of religions, each one believing that their God or god-story is the only true and unique version.
- Love and compassion, which promote life, are mocked as facile. Whereas war, which harms life, is seen as honorable.
- Anyone with a really useful invention can forcefully prevent others from using or modifying it.

004. Now I just hit you with a lot of information but I don't know, this somehow all just really spoke to me and made me think. I hope it will for you too! All the above quotes/info are from this site, which I highly suggest liking on Facebook, because when you are mindlessly scrolling through your news feed full of rubbish, it's surprisingly refreshing to read something real. Tell what you have thought after this post, I'd LOVE to hear your thoughts!

An Outfit Post?!

Sunday, 12 July 2015

Skirt: Op Shop// Turtleneck: ASOS// Jumper: Sportsgirl// Bag: Tigerlily// Boots: Doc Martens// Necklaces: DIY and Gifted

001. TIME TO CELEBRATE BECAUSE THIS IS MY FIRST OUTFIT POST IN 4 MONTHS! Sorry about the absence, honestly wasn't planned at all. I guess it's just been a combination of me working all the time, saving all my money, not leaving the house and being generally lazy that has resulted in this predicament. I promise I'll try to work on it though, I still love clothes far too much, don't worry!

002. Apologies about the weird blogging routine lately. I'm trying this new thing out where I only blog when I'm really "feeling it." You know... like when I have a creative flair or a desire to just sit down and slam out a few posts. I don't want to force anything or push myself to do it, because it's a hobby and I want to enjoy it. If that makes any sense at all?

003. I suppose I should talk about the outfit now. I'm a bit out of practice, so naturally I'm looking extra awkward in these shots- oops. So far in my neck of woods we have been experiencing a very pleasantly mild winter and this is about as warm as I've had to dress during the day. I use this bag every single day, I LOVE IT! It adds such a nice bohemian pop of colour to my generally monochrome outfits. In a desperate move to prepare for Splendour I've been wearing these boots at every chance I get because I want to wear them in. So far, no luck. Blisters are still threatening to pop up with every outing I take them on. Luckily I am a shoe addict and do have a back up pair of Docs that are comfy. But I really do want to wear these, the whole hiker vibe seems perfect for a festival!

004. I'm planning on posting a bit more in the next week (fingers crossed). Sorry again for being so inconsistent- I promise I'll get my creative pants on soon!

Oh The Places You'll Go...

Friday, 26 June 2015

001. "Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go." (Dr Suess- my favourite book to find inspiration- seriously go read it NOW!)

002. Lately (well for majority of this year) I've had this ongoing feeling which is hard to put my finger on. I have a strong desire, a need, a passion to ESCAPE, EXPLORE, LEARN and GROW. Life is one big adventure and even though I am only really at the beginning of mine, I know it is something I want more than anything.

003. This year, I have undertaken what is called a "gap year" and to be totally honest my adventures are yet to fully start. I have loved having the time to get to know myself better this year and have a lot of big adventures in store beginning at the end of July. Don't worry I promise to keep you updated in more detail in future blog posts before I jet off in a plane on big adventures!

004. My intention with travel is to learn more about the world, cultures, myself, other people and new exciting places. I want to fully immerse myself into whatever gets thrown my way. I want to truly live- have no set-in-stone plans and just take every day as it comes, embracing the adventures that follow. I have big dreams, but I figure there's no better time than the present. Why put off following your dreams to wait for a more convenient time? How long will you put it off for? Until you finish uni? Until you have a proper career? Until you pay off a house? Until you're married? I'm ambitious but I'm confident and passionate about achieving meaning in life, which I want to pursue through the avenue of travel.

005. My life so far has been safe, happy and somewhat sheltered. But I want to discover more and see more. I am so thankful for everything that has lead me on my path so far and I can't wait to continue to see where it takes me. For once I'm actually excited for life! For new experiences and new adventures! Watch this space to see what else is going on in my head and in my life. I want to share my journey on this blog (my online diary I guess) as a way to document my musings and adventures to come! Talk soon.

The Holy Grail Festival Survival Kit

Tuesday, 23 June 2015

items pictured: funky across-body bag, phone, cash, paw paw ointment, BB cream, wet wipes, sanitiser, sunglass, a film/disposable camera, wide brim hat and comfy dancing boots

001. With Splendour in the Grass only a month away now I thought it was about time I kicked my butt into festival mode. Festivals are one of my favourite things EVER, so I'm going to dedicate a couple posts to them. I'm thinking maybe some outfit inspiration/lookbook kinda things because I need to outfit plan ASAP and always have hundreds of ideas floating around in my head!

002. This post however aims to outline the bare necessities needed at a festival and what I will 100% be bringing myself! Self-explanatory items are a small bag thats easy to carry, dancing shoes, sunglasses and a hat to keep you cool. Other basic things are a phone in case you lose your friends (very easy to do) and cash because you don't want to miss your favourite band lining up for an ATM. To keep yourself looking half-human at least during the long days I advise on wet wipes, sanitiser, lip balm and BB cream. Finally, don't forget a little film camera to capture the memories and relive the event when you get your film developed! (Pop down to Kmart or Big W to score an el-cheapo disposable one.)

003. Hope this post was somewhat helpful or has helped you get excited for festival season BECAUSE I SURE AM! Tell me what festivals you are heading to and what your favourite thing about festival life is!

HOW TO: Nana Ice-Cream

Saturday, 13 June 2015

STEP ONE: Get some bananas! I recommend the spottier the better because they are far more sweet. If you freeze them too early when they are perfectly yellow, you might end up with that kinda starchy-unripe taste.

STEP TWO: Chop em' up! I like to cut mine up to make it easier to blend and then freeze them in little freezer bag portion sizes. I'd recommend AT LEAST 3 bananas per serving.

STEP THREE: Pop it all in a food processor (or high speed blender if you have one)! For this step you add your bananas, an extra flavouring (I opted for blueberries) and your liquid (my favourite it almond or coconut milk so it's extra creamy). Less is more with the liquid- if it's not enough you can always add a little more, but if you add too much it can turn out like a smoothie instead of nice ice-cream consistency we are aiming for.

STEP FOUR: Blend! This is the easiest part and it should look something like this. Note: You don't need a fancy blender or food processor mine is just a basic one! You might need a little more patience if using a blender though, but you should get a similar finished product.

STEP FIVE: Ice-cream! Look at the creamy goodness!

STEP SIX: Add your toppings! Just like normal ice-cream you can go crazy with your toppings and add whatever your heart desires. I usually opt for some sort of nut/wholegrain and extra fruit.

STEP SEVEN: Eat and enjoy!

001. Following on from my last post, I've finally got around to posting a 'how to' for nana ice-cream! I hope it's easy to follow and understand. It is seriously my favourite meal at the moment and so simple to make. I'd love to hear if you are going to give it go or how it turns out- happy cooking!

Label Love: Lenni

Sunday, 31 May 2015

1//2//3//4//5//6

001. This week I've been crushing hard on this little label. Fellow blog readers I am so happy I have the pleasure of introducing you to Lenni The Label. Hands down the COOLEST and most FUNKY Aussie label ever.

002. Everything about this brand is so freaking perfect! Just look at a few of the photos from their lookbook shoots- they are so perfectly curated. And then their instagram- also perfect and filled with lots of inspiring stylish flatlays. While you're mesmerised by their array of photos, just go ahead give them a follow, chuck them a like and show your support because this little label deserves a lot of love.

003. I haven't even mentioned the clothes yet...! If you are looking for something unique, stylish and western/bohemian/but-still-sometimes-minimal looking I've found your answer. I am yet to own a piece of Lenni sadly, but it is currently sitting at number 1 on my wishlist. I really do adore all of their pieces, but have picked out a top six, which I would LOVE to have proudly hanging up in my wardrobe.

ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST!?

Saturday, 23 May 2015

001. Yes, you heard me right ladies.... ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST. Well.... kinda ice cream. If your ideal breakfast is something that tastes 100% bad for you but is actually 100% good for you, I've found the answer.

002. "Nice-cream" or "nana-ice-cream" is the craze that is kinda sweeping the Instagram foodies/vegans/health food lovers off their feet. Essentially it is frozen bananas, blended with some additional flavouring of your choice (eg. strawberries, cocoa powder, mango) to create a creamy meal that resembles ice cream. Top with some yummy extras, such as extra fruit, nuts, seeds or coconut, and you're good to go!

003. I've illustrated this post with a few of my favourite "nice-cream" creations. I am obsessed. Not gonna lie... I'm a little bit sad winter is on it's way because it's becoming more and more challenging eating a icy bowl of goodness for breakfast. 100% healthy and 100% delicious.

004. Tell me if you've tasted "nice-cream" or have tried to make it before!? I'de love to hear what you think!
