Oh The Places You'll Go...

Friday, 26 June 2015

001. "Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go." (Dr Suess- my favourite book to find inspiration- seriously go read it NOW!)

002. Lately (well for majority of this year) I've had this ongoing feeling which is hard to put my finger on. I have a strong desire, a need, a passion to ESCAPE, EXPLORE, LEARN and GROW. Life is one big adventure and even though I am only really at the beginning of mine, I know it is something I want more than anything.

003. This year, I have undertaken what is called a "gap year" and to be totally honest my adventures are yet to fully start. I have loved having the time to get to know myself better this year and have a lot of big adventures in store beginning at the end of July. Don't worry I promise to keep you updated in more detail in future blog posts before I jet off in a plane on big adventures!

004. My intention with travel is to learn more about the world, cultures, myself, other people and new exciting places. I want to fully immerse myself into whatever gets thrown my way. I want to truly live- have no set-in-stone plans and just take every day as it comes, embracing the adventures that follow. I have big dreams, but I figure there's no better time than the present. Why put off following your dreams to wait for a more convenient time? How long will you put it off for? Until you finish uni? Until you have a proper career? Until you pay off a house? Until you're married? I'm ambitious but I'm confident and passionate about achieving meaning in life, which I want to pursue through the avenue of travel.

005. My life so far has been safe, happy and somewhat sheltered. But I want to discover more and see more. I am so thankful for everything that has lead me on my path so far and I can't wait to continue to see where it takes me. For once I'm actually excited for life! For new experiences and new adventures! Watch this space to see what else is going on in my head and in my life. I want to share my journey on this blog (my online diary I guess) as a way to document my musings and adventures to come! Talk soon.

The Holy Grail Festival Survival Kit

Tuesday, 23 June 2015

items pictured: funky across-body bag, phone, cash, paw paw ointment, BB cream, wet wipes, sanitiser, sunglass, a film/disposable camera, wide brim hat and comfy dancing boots

001. With Splendour in the Grass only a month away now I thought it was about time I kicked my butt into festival mode. Festivals are one of my favourite things EVER, so I'm going to dedicate a couple posts to them. I'm thinking maybe some outfit inspiration/lookbook kinda things because I need to outfit plan ASAP and always have hundreds of ideas floating around in my head!

002. This post however aims to outline the bare necessities needed at a festival and what I will 100% be bringing myself! Self-explanatory items are a small bag thats easy to carry, dancing shoes, sunglasses and a hat to keep you cool. Other basic things are a phone in case you lose your friends (very easy to do) and cash because you don't want to miss your favourite band lining up for an ATM. To keep yourself looking half-human at least during the long days I advise on wet wipes, sanitiser, lip balm and BB cream. Finally, don't forget a little film camera to capture the memories and relive the event when you get your film developed! (Pop down to Kmart or Big W to score an el-cheapo disposable one.)

003. Hope this post was somewhat helpful or has helped you get excited for festival season BECAUSE I SURE AM! Tell me what festivals you are heading to and what your favourite thing about festival life is!

HOW TO: Nana Ice-Cream

Saturday, 13 June 2015

STEP ONE: Get some bananas! I recommend the spottier the better because they are far more sweet. If you freeze them too early when they are perfectly yellow, you might end up with that kinda starchy-unripe taste.

STEP TWO: Chop em' up! I like to cut mine up to make it easier to blend and then freeze them in little freezer bag portion sizes. I'd recommend AT LEAST 3 bananas per serving.

STEP THREE: Pop it all in a food processor (or high speed blender if you have one)! For this step you add your bananas, an extra flavouring (I opted for blueberries) and your liquid (my favourite it almond or coconut milk so it's extra creamy). Less is more with the liquid- if it's not enough you can always add a little more, but if you add too much it can turn out like a smoothie instead of nice ice-cream consistency we are aiming for.

STEP FOUR: Blend! This is the easiest part and it should look something like this. Note: You don't need a fancy blender or food processor mine is just a basic one! You might need a little more patience if using a blender though, but you should get a similar finished product.

STEP FIVE: Ice-cream! Look at the creamy goodness!

STEP SIX: Add your toppings! Just like normal ice-cream you can go crazy with your toppings and add whatever your heart desires. I usually opt for some sort of nut/wholegrain and extra fruit.

STEP SEVEN: Eat and enjoy!

001. Following on from my last post, I've finally got around to posting a 'how to' for nana ice-cream! I hope it's easy to follow and understand. It is seriously my favourite meal at the moment and so simple to make. I'd love to hear if you are going to give it go or how it turns out- happy cooking!
